Testing and Commissioning

All switchboards that are installed in Australia are required to meet the following Australian standards: 3000 Electrical Installations, 3008 Electrical Installations and Selection of Cables, and 61439 Low-Voltage Switchgear and Controlgear Assemblies.

As you would expect, at Select Switchboards we always guarantee that all of the switchboards we produce in our in-house manufacturing facility are factory tested to ensure that they are both safe to install and working at optimal efficiency.

In addition to the design and assembly of switchboards, we also offer assistance with the on-site installation including full testing and commissioning as an optional additional service. Our switchboard specialists have installed and commissioned everything from small switchboards to entire switchrooms, so you know that you are in good hands.

Testing & Commissioning
AS/NZS 61439

The most relevant and specific Australian standard that all switchboards must conform to is the AS/NZS 61439 standard for low-voltage switchgear and control gear assemblies.

The purpose of the AS/NZS 61439 standard is to ensure the safety and reliability of switchgear and control gear assemblies. These assemblies are widely used in electrical systems for power distribution, motor control, and other switchboard applications. The AS/NZS 61439 standard provides guidelines on important access throughout the design, manufacture, and testing of all switchboards.

Select Switchboards AS/NZS 61439 Compliance

As mentioned, all of the switchboards that we design and construct at Select Switchboards comply with all of the necessary AS/NZS 61439 and are provided and ready to install immediately within the infrastructure of your site.

Design Verification: Our team will develop the design drawings in compliance with previously tested and verified designs.

Switchboard Installation: The Select team has fit everything from small basic switchboards to entire switchrooms that power industrial sites. The more complicated a board or a project, the more we recommend using a switchboard specialist rather than a regular electrician.

Switchboard Testing: The testing phase focuses on the safety, and adherence of the switchboard to AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008, and AS/NZS 61439 Standards, as well as the client's specifications and requirements.

Switchboard Commissioning: The commissioning phase relates to the operational capabilities of the switchboard. Ensuring that it is working at an optimum rate with the required load capacity, systems, and circuits in place for the infrastructure of the site.

On-Site Support & Verification

All of the switchboards we design and manufacture at our in-house facility are always factory-tested upon completion with guaranteed compliance with all relevant Australian Government standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008, and AU/NZS 61439).

We also offer support and commissioning services for switchboards not manufactured by Select Switchboards, to ensure that they are fully conforming to the required regulations and are correctly installed on-site.

Sometimes highly critical jobs required a third party to verify an installation and test the function and compliance of a site's switchboard to ensure that it is compliant with the AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008, and AU/NZS 61439 Standards.

The Select Switchboard team are well-versed when it comes to designing, building, and testing switchboards to ensure that they adhere to all of the above standards. This experience allows them to assist you in the full switchboard commissioning and testing on-site, including the completion of all relevant documentation and records.

Our switchboard commissioning support includes:

  • Adherence to AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008, and AS/NZS 61439 Standards
  • Ductor Testing for Bus Bar Path Continuity
  • Power Quality and Monitoring
  • Primary and Secondary Injection Testing
  • Protection Relay Testing
